    Description

    The Legislative Aide/Policy Services performs research and assists with the development of legislation to help the Member accomplish their legislative agenda. This individual must be familiar with the legislative process, government operations, and the nature of the constituency. This individual attends meetings on behalf of the Representative, will staff committee meetings, and plans district meetings. 

    This individual will handle legislation and constituent work including researching legislation to solve district issues, communicating with constituents via phone, email and newsletters, and speaking on behalf of the Representative to constituents.   This individual performs administrative responsibilities as needed. This individual must have an ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative and judgment, make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.  Each individual Representative determines the scope of assigned authority within the office and the Representative's Legislative Aide/Policy Services must be able to adapt and respond to demands on ever-changing issues on the legislative agenda and importance to the communities represented.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The applicant must be dependable, professional, detail-oriented and possess strong administrative, organizational, and clerical skills.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office and possess the ability to learn other software applications as needed. The applicant needs to be self-motivated, detail-oriented, capable of assuming responsibility without direct supervision or direction, and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should also have a bachelor’s degree and must have government experience with an expertise in state issues.

    Description

    The Legislative Aide/Constituent Services position requires the individual to perform administrative duties, which include maintaining positive relationships with constituents, answering constituent phone calls, emails, and mail, coordinating with state departments to resolve constituent issues, coordinating the Representative's schedule, writing and tracking correspondence, and managing the office. Other responsibilities include helping plan district events, monitoring major district happenings, writing social media posts, working on legislative initiatives, and handling special projects. The Legislative Aide/Constituent Services may be asked to perform other administrative duties, as assigned.

    In-person work in Lansing and in the legislative district (Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park) is required. Duties in the legislative district include attending community meetings, stakeholder meetings, the Representative's community office hours, town halls, education walks, or similar events.

    Employment is 40 hours per week with flex scheduling available as attendance at evening and weekend events is routine.

    The Michigan House of Representatives Sergeant-at-Arms Police Agency is currently accepting applications for Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms. This full-time law enforcement position involves dignitary protection, threat assessments and investigations. We are looking for a candidate with law enforcement experience, a positive and professional demeanor, good moral character, and sound judgement.

    The predominant work schedule is Monday thru Friday, with weekends and state holidays off. Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms work under the supervision of the Chief of Police, at the direction of the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

    Salary Range

    $61,800

    Minimum Qualifications

    • US Citizen

    • MCOLES certified or eligible for re-certification

    • Minimum of four years of law enforcement experience. Military experience may be considered towards this four years requirement

    • Certified or able to be re-certified in Emergency First Aid, CPR and AED

    • Possess an associate degree, with bachelor’s degree or higher preferred

    • Basic computer skills and investigative experience is preferred

    • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality
